Workshop “Power Analysis”

DATE: February 14, 2025

LANGUAGE: English

DURATION: 9.00 - 17.00

LOCATION: Room "Gerstner" in the ground floor of Science Park 2 (building D1 2)

Abstract
Sample size planning is essential for designing informative research studies to answer scientific questions of interest and thus contribute meaningfully to the research literature. This workshop aims to provide an accessible introduction to sample size planning for statistical power, focusing on designs and approaches commonly considered by researchers in psychology.

We will review the theoretical underpinnings of statistical power and discuss different approaches to effect size selection. We will demonstrate the practical implementation of sample size planning under realistic conditions such as uncertainty and publication bias. We will also cover sample size planning issues for more advanced analyses such as SEM and multilevel models. We will work primarily in R, using a variety of packages, and will introduce GUIs to facilitate access to some of the analyses.

Please bring your own laptop with the latest versions of R and RStudio installed.
